Silent timer

A free silent timer for places where a beep would be rude or against the rules. Set Sound to Silent and the countdown ends with a visual cue and an optional desktop notification, which a phone on mute cannot show you across a desk. Also searched as timer without sound, mute timer, quiet timer, no sound timer.

Three ways to notice the end without sound

The tab title also counts down, so a pinned tab works as a tiny display while you work in another one.

Notification details

The first time you tick Notify, the browser asks for permission. If you decline, the box unticks itself and you can try again later. Notifications may be blocked in private windows and on managed work devices. If you later want sound back, the timer with alarm page explains the three sounds and how loud they are.

Frequently asked questions

How do I turn the sound off?

Set the Sound select to Silent. Nothing plays when the timer ends; the ring turns green and a Time's up overlay appears instead.

How will I know the time is up without sound?

Tick Notify for a desktop notification, watch the ring empty, or glance at the tab title, which shows the remaining time while the timer runs.

Why is the notification not showing?

Your browser must grant permission the first time you tick Notify. Private or incognito windows and some work laptops block notifications; use the ring or tab title there.
