Parking timer

A free parking timer that loads one hour, the most common meter length. The trick is to set it shorter than the meter so the alarm leaves you time to walk back. On a desktop at work, the countdown stays in your tab title and a desktop notification reaches you in any window. Also searched as parking meter timer, car park timer, parking reminder.

Set it to ring before the meter does

  1. Note the meter's expiry and how far away the car is.
  2. Subtract the walk plus a safety margin, usually ten minutes.
  3. Click the digits and type the result, then press Space. For a 2 hour meter, that is 1 hour 50 minutes.
  4. Or open this page with the length in the address: add ?h=1&m=50 for 1 hour 50 minutes.

Phone caveat

A browser timer on a locked phone may not sound. If you leave the desk, set your phone's built-in alarm as a backup, or use a pay-by-phone app that sends its own reminder. This page is at its best on a laptop or desktop that stays awake.

Tips

Frequently asked questions

How do I set a parking timer for a 2 hour meter?

Set 1 hour 50 minutes so the alarm gives you ten minutes to walk back. Click the digits and type it, or open this page with ?h=1&m=50 added to the address.

Will the alarm sound if my phone is locked?

Often not. Most phone browsers mute audio when the screen locks. Keep the tab open on a desktop, or set the phone's own alarm as a backup.

Does the timer survive a page reload?

Yes. The end time is saved in your browser, so reloading the same page resumes the countdown.
