Alarm clock

This page opens as a big, readable clock. It becomes a free alarm clock the moment you add a countdown that ends at the time you want. Unlike a phone alarm, it fills a laptop, TV or second monitor and needs no app. Also searched as online alarm clock, alarm timer, set alarm.

How to set an alarm for a time of day

  1. Read the current time from the clock.
  2. Count the hours and minutes until the time you want the alarm.
  3. Click Timer (the Start button in clock mode) to switch to the countdown.
  4. Click the digits, type the hours and minutes, and press Enter.

Or skip the typing: add the gap to the address, for example /alarm-clock/?h=7&m=45, then press Space twice: once to switch from the clock to the timer, once to start.

For long gaps, the 8 hour timer and countdown timer pages work the same way and accept the same URL trick.

Where it works well, and where it does not

Winding down at night instead of waking up? The sleep timer page covers that.

Frequently asked questions

Can I set an alarm for a specific time of day?

Not directly. Work out how long it is until that time, then set a countdown for that length. For 7 h 45 min, open /alarm-clock/?h=7&m=45, click Timer to leave the clock, then press Start.

Will the alarm go off if my laptop goes to sleep?

No. A sleeping laptop stops the browser, and most phones mute a locked browser tab. Keep the device awake and the tab open, or use your phone's built-in alarm for overnight wake-ups.

Does the alarm work with the sound off?

Turn on Notify and you get a desktop notification when the countdown ends, even with Sound set to Silent. The ring also turns green and a Time's up overlay appears.
